"The
Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land."
(Genesis 26:22)
Rehoboth is Hebrew and can be translated
"room". For the members of Rehoboth Evangelical Church this
verse is one that we relate to and are experiencing.
Pastor Kassa spent his first three months in Canada
living in a shelter. It was here that a vision grew in his heart for
helping people - specifically Ethiopian and Eritrean immigrants like
himself. Begining with six people meeting for worship, Rehoboth Evangelical
Church was birthed in 2005 and has grown into an active community of
Christians.
With 10 years of pastoral experience in Ethiopia before
coming to Canada, Pastor Kassa was familiar with the Mennonite Church.
He believes it is important to connect with other churches. After walking
with Mennonite Church Eastern Canada Mission Council, Rehoboth is now
a member congregation within MCEC.
In 2009 the congregation rented space in the Danforth
Baptist Church, one block east of Broadview. It meets there Sunday afternoons,
and the service is in Amharic. A fellowship time follows each service.
The worshipping group consists of approximately 45 to 50 people.
